A little earlier I was listening to some Bukka White. I actually heard about him because of Jeff Buckley’s cover of Parchman Farm Blues. There’s always been something about the blues that I love, especially the older stuff. The warm crackle of the ancient recording equipment is just so captivating to me. My stuff right now sounds so metallic in comparison. I really love a warm, organic sound, especially for the material I’m working on right now.

Oh and also I’m thinking about changing the name of the album or whatever. Suggestions are welcome but I probably won’t settle on anything until the last minute.

So I finally got my old mic to work, so I did a little recording the other night. Unfortunately, it broke again after three songs. I do have another one, and I figured out how to make it work but I need to get an adapter which I will hopefully get my hands on by tomorrow. If all goes well I might have an album out in a couple of weeks, which I know seems like a short amount of time to produce an album. But I am unsigned, and pretty lo-fi and I wrote all the songs already. Just don’t count on a solid release date, ’cause I’m not in a hurry and I might want to have some of my friends play on the album. But anyway, you can check out what I have on myspace. I’ll update that thing pretty often. Oh, and also I might release an EP before or after. I’m gonna look into getting on iTunes but for now I’m probably just going to burn CDs and give free or cheap copies out. If people across the internet show any interest then I’ll more seriously consider iTunes, or maybe free downloads or something. I dunno, I’m just taking it one step at a time.

My domain name is going to run out in January if I do not renew it, guys! Oh no :(

For the less technically educated among you, that means that if I don’t cough up 20 dollas by January first, then I won’t have brendino.net anymore. :( but the good news is that I will still have the blog. But the bad news is that it will be at brendino.wordpress.com instead and people may become mighty confused! I wonder how many people will miss the update and never find me again!?!?!

However there is more good news and that is that I already have the 20 dollas. But there is more bad news and that is that I am saving up to buy a nice mic that will work with my computer so I can record my music, so I would really rather not spend the 20 dollas on my domain name. (Did you know my average income per week is like 10 fricken dollas!?) So if you, my friends in real life would like to contribute a dolla or two it would be mighty appreciated! (Gee I sure hope I have 20 friends.)

Oh and also I changed the theme to this thing called Monotone. There will only be one post shown at once, and I have a tendency to write two posts in one day some times so fear not to click that back button a few times when you finish reading a post. Oh and if the arrows are there its cause the computer tried to match the color scheme with the photo and made the arrows the same color as the background. You can get to the next post by clicking on the right side of the image, and the last post by clicking on the left side.

One more thing: I edited the about page and it took quite a while so I will be very disappointed if nobody checks it out.

So Halloween was yesterday, obviously. Sorry I can’t think of a more interesting way to start the post.

But anyway. Kids are allowed to wear their costumes at my school on Halloween, as long as it “doesn’t conceal your identity.” Not that it stops anyone from putting on masks or or face paints or other what have yous. Four kids all dressed up as the four Teletubbies, and rode around the school on scooters. Some other kids dressed up as a group of homeless people, and skipped class in favor of lying around in the courtyard holding up their cardboard signs, yelling, and banging on empty water jugs and buckets to make a kind of an urban ensemble. My favorite, though, was the kid who dressed up as a box. I know it’s been done before, but I’d never seen anyone in a box costume big enough to take up the entire stairwell before.

After school I had my voice lesson (Oh, did I mention I’m taking those now? Yeah, every Friday.) Then I went home, and Andy came to carve pumpkins with me and Valerie. After that, I headed over to Jay’s place to go trick or treating. He was dressed up in a suit, button down shirt, tie, slacks, and his usual fedora hat. I was dressed in normal clothes, save for a black mask with three feathers poking out of the top. We had some interesting conversations.

*ding-dong. Asian woman in her mid-thirties or so opens the door.*
Jay and I: Trick or treat.
*Lady gives us candy and asks about Jay’s costume, but rudely neglects to ask about mine.
Probably had something to do with that I was holding a skateboard at the time.*
Lady (says something along the lines of): I like your hat
Jay: Thanks. I wear it every day, actually
Lady: Oh, they must be frightened of you. I’m scared already.
Me: I wear this every day, too, actually. *points to mask*
Lady: Oh, really? (not really buying it)
Me: Yeah, people call me names sometimes.

*ding-dong. Aging gentleman opens the door.*
Jay and I: Trick or treat.
Aging gentleman: Ah, hello. You look great, what are you, a young Bob Dylan? (addressing Jay)
Jay: A British gentleman.
Aging gentleman: Oh, that’s nice. Which one?
Jay: Not any in par—
Me: All of them.
Jay: yeah.
Aging gentleman: Ah, well. I could see the resemblance of a young Bob Dylan. And what about you? (addressing me)
Me: I’m a snake.
Aging gentleman: Oh, is that so?
Me: Yes.
Jay: It’s a very rare type. From Africa.
Me: Yeah, nowhere else in the world. Can’t find em anywhere.
Aging gentleman: Okay, well you kids have a nice night.
Jay: Yeah, happy Halloween.
Me: You have a good time now.

The evening went pretty much like that. It was pretty nice. Then we went home, watched Borat, slept, woke up, and now I’m here. I really need to take a shower.
